“I know I have to deal with this.”

Trauma comes in all forms, from large, significant events to smaller, ongoing experiences that impact us negatively over time.

Regardless of the form trauma takes, when it is unresolved, the past unfortunately doesn’t stay there — it begins to show up in our day-to-day lives.

Perhaps it’s showing up in your romantic relationships as you struggle with intimacy or anger. Maybe your past experiences have led you to consider harming yourself or you find yourself relying on substances to cope or numb how you are feeling. Or maybe you simply can’t stop thinking about what’s happened and want more than anything to be free of its effects on you.

Trauma therapy can help you move beyond the past.

Often, trauma survivors feel like they “should” be over this “by now” — as if there is some deadline they’re not meeting. Maybe you’re frustrated that something that happened so long ago is still bothering you or affecting you this much.

Trauma therapy is about helping you, first and foremost, show yourself compassion. There is no timeline on trauma (or its impacts)! Once you are able to allow yourself the time and space to feel whatever it is that you are feeling, you can experience the freedom that comes from accepting and working through what was and confidently working toward what will be.

Trauma & Dissociative Identity Disorder

Are you a trauma survivor who has recently received a Dissociative Identity Disorder or other dissociative-related diagnosis or someone who has spent months (or years) avoiding or resisting it? We want you to know that dissociative-related symptoms are simply your brain’s way of creating safety for you in the midst of the things you experienced. The two are closely related, and we specialize in helping adults with dissociative disorders process both trauma and their diagnosis, in order to come to peace with both

How does trauma therapy work?

Our approach to trauma therapy is highly individualized. Clinicians at Inner Healer Therapy, are all trained in advanced modalities of trauma therapy (EMDR, Structural Dissociation theory, Deep Brain Reorienting, etc). We’ll start not only by helping you identify your goals for therapy but also which additional tools or interventions might be most helpful for you. These may include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), somatic-based interventions, mindfulness exercises, or other methods.

From there, we’ll work together to unpack your experiences, find ways to cope with and heal from them, and help to restore your self-esteem and outlook on life as you move forward into a brighter, more hopeful future.
